Yoga At Work

Besides conducting Yoga Teacher Training Courses  in various parts of the world, we have long time ago introduced Corporate Yoga Training  programs in India, and it has been a great experience. We have introduced new methodology of training the employees by  integrating modern activities  and the concept of Multiple Intelligence and Experiential Learning . These activities have been developed by The Yoga Institute of Santacruz and tested with thousand of students . They are used for bringing about more body awareness and control, concentration, relaxation and make it easier the understanding of the  Yoga Philosophy  – through conceptual games. All that, of course, along with  traditional yoga asanas, pranayamas, kriyas and meditation . Our aim is to use all this technology to give a broader perspective to physical and mental fitness, taking in consideration of the modern day set-up of an office environment and functioning. ...

Yoga During Crisis

Yoga During Crisis Yoga During Crisis Having worked in an emergency department for several years, I have had the opportunity of seeing a wide range of humanity in a vast array of conditions, both mentally and physically.  Some people arrive in severe pain, some in only mild discomfort, some in no pain at all but with significant anxiety and psychiatric issues. The accompanying family and friends, however, often swim about in their own pools of anxiety, worry, and fear over the future. They react to the sensations arising in their bodies, sometimes becoming agitated, anxious, and unable to coherently think or speak, so deeply entrenched are they in their worry. Imagine what an emergency department would look like if not only the patients and their families were running about in anxiety and fear, but also all of the physicians, nurses, and other staff. The entire building would be in chaos and nothing would ever get done. Nobody would be able to think rationally or logicall...

Yoga Education - Part 1

Yoga Education - Part 1 Yoga Education - Part 1 The ultimate purpose of pedagogy, the science of teaching, is the attainment of human maturity.  It is this that distinguishes this art from other disciplines, distinctly defining it in its own essence.  Maturity is obtained by different traditions of education all over the world.  Nowhere does it achieve greater results though, than, when the education process itself is studied objectively devoid of dogma. Yoga, it has been established, has very specific educational functions.  It helps in achieving a higher state of consciousness on the evolutionary scale of individual development.  It is the discipline of the body and mind and in that sense it is education, because education leads to discipline. Yoga a Science of Life Yoga is as old as life itself.  In essence it is a specific way, a manner of living.  Basing its insights and discoveries on the observation of nature, Yoga impar...

Stress Management through Yoga - Part 1 (By Hansaji J. Yogendra)

Every situation which has bothered you, you are supposed to identify that situation, give an answer to that situation and see that it does not pile up .  This is the best management.  In the morning you had an argument with your boss and you could not shout back at him, so you kept quiet, however you did get hurt.  You returned home, argued with your wife or somehow released your tensions.  But you have not yet solved the problem. Now before going to bed maybe you could just close your eyes and analyze the situation.  Then you could philosophize and answer it.  Well, boss is justified for his behavior because maybe that is the only way that he can get the work done and this is his way of managing his employees.  So you could answer that, well, anybody who is behaving in anyway is justified. The thing here is that 'you don’t label it as wrong', because you put yourself in the boss’s situation, and then try to understand it.  Somehow bring all that logic, reasoning, and understan...

What is Classical Yoga or Traditional Yoga?

Understanding Yoga as on of the Indian systems of philosophy; Understanding Yoga as a path for Self-realization; Understanding Yoga as way of life; Understanding Yoga in its entirety (not just taking one part of it). All of the above is meant when we say Classical or Traditional Yoga. Raja Yoga can also be called as Ashtanga Yoga or Patanjali Ashtanga Yoga. So lets understand what is Raja Yoga or Patanjali Ashtanga Yoga in brief: Raja literally means 'king' or 'royal'. Raja Yoga may refer to one of the paths of Yoga amongst the 4 valid paths; the other 3 paths being Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana Yoga . But in reality it is the culmination of all Yogic disciplines and efforts. So Raja Yoga actually refers to the highest states of Yoga. Patanjali, was a great sage who systematized the entire path of Yoga in his 195 sutras . And, in this way he has contributed to the human society this great work on spirituality and human psychology. Raja Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga consis...

Karma Yoga - Work with the right attitude

The emphasis is on the attitude and on consciousness. Maintaining a certain attitude constantly leads to a corresponding awareness which again leads to being established in this awareness at the time. That is why being involved in work is qualified by the statement “a right attitude”. Work by itself is not what is suggested . To turn this work into worship will require change in the attitude. The usual suggestions here are faith, duty, service and concentration. This immediately puts the mind in a different state. There is a worshipful attitude, dedication and much spiritual gain. In fact one who has reached such state and remains all the time in this state can very well claim the highest achievement for himself, i.e., self-actualization. Do it - Why do we go on talking about right and wrong; good and evil? Newton talking about his work said it is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Those who talk of right or wrong spend 99% in talking and 1% implementing. The Gita wants us to work ...

Are You Following Yoga? (Words of the Master)

A considerable amount of confusion seems to prevail in the minds of many who come to this Institute (The Yoga Institute of Santacruz) for the study of Yoga. Unless such persons help themselves to remove many inhibitions, there is little scope for them to realize true Yoga. When one wants to study Yoga, it is not for him to decide what is Yoga.   Shri Yogendraji - Founder of The Yoga Institute of Santacruz, Mumbai - India First , many already hold preconceived notions incompatible with genuine Yoga which they are incapable of modifying in spite of all proof to the contrary.   Second , there is something like craze or greed to know more and more practices without appropriate habituation to what has already been learnt under conditions required by Yoga. Third , there is confusion in the mind of many who suffer from distractions and inhibitions common to the modern life and who remain subconsciously unwilling to follow Yoga under the requirements of its study.   Fourth , all are in a hurry...

Isn’t It !? (A Yoga Poem) by Jo McParland

Isn’t It !? Ignite the fires, Strike up the band, Cleansing all thoughts, May I now stand? In bright sunshine, Or through waters clear, Free from pain, Of doubt or fear. Let no shadow be cast, Nor dullness grow, From deep within, Small seeds I sow. The path leads on, How it calls to me, Poised to follow, A dream set free. Here in this moment, Less the future and past, I acknowledge all failings, And release them at last, Unchained from deep anguish, How it tour at my soul, No bindings or shackles, Whole again I unfurl. As onward I journey, Baggage I leave well behind, Stepping out from the darkness, To myself... I shall find. JoMcP Nov 2012 " This Poem is dedicated to the Chiang Mai Yoga Teacher Training group of November 2012. It is a thank you to Daniel and Jeenal for their time, effort and encouragement throughout the training. It is also dedicated to the Yoga Institute in Mumbai, without which none of us would be on this particular path. Thank you all for making my time with y...
